Zero Hero

Okay, I’m terribly guilty of purchasing things on Amazon based on a whim of inspiration or a captivating idea. However, as a recovering shopaholic, I’m doing much better at only purchasing items that I need or improve my quality of life. Thanks to my husband, I’m also diligent in returning items that aren’t quite what I wanted or no longer needed.

My most recent purchase is something I’m quite excited about and it’s a few books to help guide me towards the life I want to lead:

I can’t explain it, but I have a strong calling to change the way I live my life so that it’s more fulfilling, even if it’s just for my own peace of mind. The last time I felt this way was when I gave up meat and alcohol. I was motivated by making an impact in the food industry by refraining from consuming meat. Alcohol was a personal choice, I had a bit of a drinking problem. However, giving up meat was so rewarding, knowing that in the year I was a vegetarian, at least one person’s supply of meat was decreased.

Now, more than ever, I want to do something like that again. I’ve gone vegetarian before, so that shouldn’t be too hard (once I break some bad eating habits) but what I would absolutely LOVE to do is go plastic-free and/or zero waste. I’m not the type of person who would sit on knowledge for too long and not act. I’m tired of contributing to the problem of destroying our environment and for the sake of my future children, I want to do something about it.

This isn’t a journey that will happen over night, I’m sure of it. In fact, I’m preparing myself for a five-year challenge. Gradually eliminating plastic and changing my lifestyle to support zero-waste. I’m so excited for these books to come in and to start diving into the first steps of research towards being a Zero Hero.
